HELLO! I'MÂ CERISSA
Here's my back story:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional practicing in Union County, New Jersey. I have a strong base of counseling experience working with adults in a wide variety of settings including structured outpatient programs, crisis intervention, community based agencies, and correctional facilities.

I have a diverse range of clinical experience working with individual and groups experiencing substance abuse and mental health issues. I specialize in helping people on their road to recovery, healing trauma, shame/guilt, and other substance abuse related issues. My work challenges old destructive thought patterns and behaviors to make space for stronger, more positive ones. I create an environment that is supportive, empathetic, and relational.

I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay City University of New York and I have a Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in Social Work.

I am trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Trauma Informed Care, and Motivational Interviewing. I also provide DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) for those who may benefit from concrete tools to balance emotions and take achievable steps towards improving their lives. I encourage clients to develop the thought that "when people have the courage and can learn to challenge and replace irrational thoughts, belief, and attitudes, people are free to experience change." I consider family systems, attachment theory, and take a strengths-based approach. I enjoy utilizing mindfulness, role playing, and lots of laughter.

I am a New Jerseyan born and raised. When I am not wearing my therapist hat, I enjoy traveling, building tiny doll houses, a good Food Network binge with copious amounts of Japanese or Thai food, sun bathing, and spending time with my family.
